In late August of 1916, Russia and Germany fought a violent battle in Tannenberg, located in East Prussia. Nicholas II was leading Russia at this time. They retreated a humiliating defeat and then later were driven out of Germany. 27 The millions of Russians killed were in result of lack of war materials and ammunition, and a low supply of services. 28 Russia blamed Nicholas for these deaths and many joined socialist parties and some joined Bolshevik societies. They followed these societies and parties because they were willing to help. Most of the followers were illiterate, oppressed, and they had no idea on politics. 29 The leader of the Bolshevik Society was Vladimir Lenin. He had new ideas of government that he called Communism that came from the beliefs of Marxism. 30 Kerensky was the leader of the socialist party. He believed in peaceful force and democratic freedoms. Many people joined Kerenskyarty because they too wanted democratic freedoms. The Provisional Government after Tsar Nicholas II and his family were assassinated Since Monarchy in Russia wasnn option anymore, a provisional government was set up until a more permanent government could be established. 34 The leader of the provisional government was none other than Kerensky, who was establishing Russia into a Democratic government. Now all the Allies in World War One had Constitutional governments, which made the United States want to join the war. 35 . |
